These days it’s important to get the most out of your PC while you still can.  The economy has a lot of people scared that they are not going to be able to get the things that they really want.  Where at one time you might of been able to get whatever you wanted, now you will be limited.  It’s just the nature of the beast and will not be like this forever.  However, until things get better this is how it will be.  So instead of a new computer, consider getting the Windows XP driver updates to keep your computer up to date.
