Tribune editors noted that 31 car seats either flew off their bases or exceeded injury limits in frontal test crashes. In March 2009, the Chicago Tribune published an investigative report about government crash testing. Parent ratings are helpful for judging factors like comfort, ease of use and everyday durability. Patty Davis, a spokeswoman for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a toddler carseat, the government body that’s responsible for testing car seats, has detailed ease-of-use ratings for each infant car seat. The repair kit includes new bolts that consumers can attach to the handle and seat carrier.
