Having a regular person to go to when your cars break down can be extremely helpful and useful, and it can save you a lot of money since you don’t have to go to a dealer.  Just make sure that the mechanic you choose is trustworthy, and won’t start trying to rip you off after a couple of fixes.  I am fortunate enough to have a pretty great mechanic who is honest enough to say when he can’t fix something.  He also is reall good about telling us exactly what the problem with our car was, and what he had to do to fix it, so we know he’s not ripping us off.
