How Sunscreen Can Damage A Pool?

Sunscreen and other various oils can be damaging to a swimming pool in a couple different ways. However wearing sunscreen while spending the day out by the pool on a hot summer day is crucial. Your health and wellbeing should always be a number 1 priority.
Everybody knows that oil and water does not mix. When sunscreen rubs off in the water it has to go some where. 2 places that you will tent to find evidence of sunscreen is first the thick residue along the outer edge collecting and staining the tile line. Usually a simple tile cleaner and a sponge will resolve this residue build up along the tile line. The second is when it collects onto the filter grids. Even though you clean the pool filters regularly, the oils can collect inside the pores of the fabric clogging the flow of water. The filter grids can be either acid washed and or replaced on a regular basis to prevent this problem. If left ignored you will tend to see a spike in the filter’s pressure even after the pool filters have been serviced.
Bottom line; never neglect your health! However with that being said, never neglect your swimming pool or spa either. Good luck!
